Class Descriptions

Wondering about what class is most suitable for you? Classes at Sacred Tree Yoga are structured more for convenience to your schedule than for level of ability. Here are some guidelines about the classes we offer.

New classes being offered! (updated October 29,2011)

 Pre-Natal Yoga

This 75 minute class is a gentle and safe way to stay active throughout your pregnancy while relieving aches and pains. This age-old practice keeps you limber, tones your muscles, improves your balance and circulation with minimal if any impact on your joints. Our goal is to build a community of friends while nuturing the bond with you and your baby. Class cards not eligible for this class.

Yin Yoga Spa

This form of yoga is a quiet, still practice aimed at opening and releasing connective tissues to promote harmonious flow of energy throughout the body. This energy is understood to be our vital life force and is often referred to as prana or chi. In a yin class poses are held for 3-5 minutes, supported by props, with the muscular system as relaxed as possible. This method can be surprisingly challenging, but brings with it an ever-deepening sense of calm, centeredness, and flexibility. You will leave this class feeling nourished and connected. This is the place you come to go deep into yourself and find everything that is perfect, loving, and whole.

Hot Power Vinyasa Flow

This class is for the determined, the courageous, the strong. If you don’t feel like you are quite there yet, come anyway, and we will help you connect to these parts of yourself. You will feel the heat on the outside, while creating your own heat on the inside. You will sweat, and you will be pushed in a safe way that honors and supports the yogic traditions of breath consciousness and body-mind awareness. This class is designed to embrace the beginner, but also to challenge the advanced yoga practitioner. This is where strength meets flexibility as an equal partner. * Bring a towel or 2, a water bottle and a change of clothes.*

Yoga 101/Refresher

This 90 minute class is for the absolute beginner in mind. Or for those who have taken classes before and feeling the need for a refresher before attending the other classes. Susan is creating a basic yoga sequence to follow. Each week will more or less follow the same sequence so you can feel more confident. Remember, when you have confidence, you glow!

Essential Practice

60 minute classes suitable for everyone, including beginners. Emphasis of this class is to explore the major groups of poses and approaches.(Vinyasa flow, standing, seated, twists, reclining, therapeutic and restorative.) Instructors give options within the class to accomodate modifications to either bump up the practice or tone it down.

Full Practice

This 90 minute class is still suitable for beginners! It allows for more time to explore standing poses, seated forward bends and explore gentle backbends while building your strength for shoulderstand. Plus, this class allows for more time in relaxation pose.

Gentle Yoga

This 60 minute class is designed for the older beginner, if you’ve been injured and a regular class isn’t an option at this time, or if you simply wish to slow down your pace to savour the practice.

Night Owl Yoga

Initiated by Blake Hamilton, this class used to be offered at Gypsy Jive but is now offered at Sacred Tree Yoga. This fun, inspiring 90 minute class is for anyone who is more active in the evening and needs to burn off some energy before bedtime. This class is a Pay What You Can class with a $5 minimum. This class will only be available until November 10th, 2011. This class resumes January 12, 2012.

Bellydance your Way to Fitness

Bellydance is a beautiful culturally-rich dance form that spans from the Egypt, to Turkey, Greece, North Africa, and even North America. It is a toning, lengthening, and strengthening practice that involves the body to become in touch and aware of the core and “belly”. Isolation work, especially of the abdomen and hips, are common in Bellydance. Explore your feminine side through basic isolations, shimmies, and travelling steps, along with a few prop surprises! All skill levels welcome. This class will consist of a multi level workout for all to enjoy. Please wear comfortable clothing, no footwear required.

Private Classes

Still not what you are looking for?

If either the schedule or the classes do not suit you at this time, then private classes might be a better fit for you. People who wish for a private class usually

  • want privacy
  • learn best one on one
  • are too shy to come to a group class
  • have irregular work hours
  • have specific goals in yoga/meditation they wish to work on
